You agree to the terms of service below, and the Terms of Use for Substack, the technology provider.
Effective July 8, 2026
Welcome to Jon’s Soccer Thoughts. These Terms of Service explain the basic rules that apply when you subscribe to, read, comment on, or otherwise interact with Jon’s Soccer Thoughts.
I have tried to keep this as straightforward as possible. By accessing or using Jon’s Soccer Thoughts, you agree to these terms.
1. About Jon’s Soccer Thoughts
Jon’s Soccer Thoughts is an independent soccer publication written and operated by Jon Hunt.
The publication includes articles, newsletters, commentary, historical research, community discussions, and other soccer-related content. The subjects may wander. That is, more or less, the point.
Jon’s Soccer Thoughts is currently hosted through Substack. Your use of Substack itself is also subject to Substack’s own terms, policies, and guidelines.
2. Subscriptions
Jon’s Soccer Thoughts offers both free and paid subscriptions. My articles are intended to remain free to read. Paid Supporter and Capo subscriptions are ways to financially support the time, research, and work that go into the publication.
Paid subscribers may receive additional benefits, including behind-the-scenes notes, early looks at upcoming work, opportunities to provide feedback on future articles, and access to private community spaces such as The Press Box.
Subscriber benefits may change or evolve over time. I do not guarantee a specific publishing schedule or a fixed number of additional posts, notes, polls, or other benefits.
3. Payments and Renewals
Subscription pricing is displayed at the time of purchase. Payments are processed through Substack and its designated payment providers.
Unless otherwise stated or required by law, subscription payments are nonrefundable. You are responsible for managing or canceling your subscription through the account and billing tools provided by Substack. Prices may change in the future, but changes will not be applied retroactively to payments already completed.
4. Content
Unless otherwise stated or credited, the original writing and other original material published by Jon’s Soccer Thoughts belong to me.
You are welcome to share links to my work, discuss it, and quote reasonable portions with proper attribution. You may not reproduce, republish, sell, or distribute entire articles or substantial portions of my work without permission. Nothing in these terms is intended to limit rights available under applicable copyright law.
5. Comments and Community Spaces
I want Jon’s Soccer Thoughts to be a place where people can disagree, argue their point, and actually talk about the game.
Be respectful, argue in good faith, and treat people like people. Bigotry, harassment, spam, or the sharing of private information may be removed, and I reserve the right to moderate comments, chats, and community spaces as needed. Access to community features may be restricted or removed for violations of these rules. A paid subscription does not purchase the right to make everyone else miserable.
6. User Contributions
When you post a comment, participate in a chat, respond to a poll, or otherwise contribute to Jon’s Soccer Thoughts community space, you remain responsible for what you share.
Do not post material you do not have the right to share. You should also avoid posting confidential, private, or personally identifying information about yourself or others. Ideas and suggestions shared through comments, polls, chats, or The Press Box may influence future articles or topics. I will not present your original writing or reporting as my own.
7. Editorial Independence
Jon’s Soccer Thoughts reflects my reporting, research, analysis, opinions, and personal perspective.
Unless specifically stated otherwise, the views expressed here are my own and do not represent Lexington Sporting Club, the Railbirds, North American Soccer Reporters, my employer, or any other organization with which I may be affiliated.
I may correct, update, revise, or remove published material when I believe it is appropriate.
8. Accuracy and No Professional Advice
I make a good-faith effort to research my work and present information accurately. Soccer history, statistics, roster records, and public information can occasionally be incomplete, disputed, or corrected over time.
Jon’s Soccer Thoughts is provided for informational and entertainment purposes. Nothing published here should be considered legal, financial, medical, or other professional advice.
9. Links and Third-Party Services
Jon’s Soccer Thoughts may link to websites, articles, videos, social media platforms, WhatsApp communities, or other third-party services.
I am not responsible for the availability, content, security, or privacy practices of services I do not control. Your use of those services is subject to their own terms and policies.
10. Privacy
Information associated with your subscription and use of the Substack platform may be processed by Substack in accordance with its privacy practices.
My handling of subscriber information is described in Jon’s Soccer Thoughts Privacy Policy. I will not sell subscriber information to advertisers or unrelated third parties.
11. Availability of the Publication
I hope to keep Jon’s Soccer Thoughts around for a long time, but I cannot guarantee that the publication, any individual article, or any particular feature will always be available.
I may change, pause, or discontinue parts of the publication when necessary. If Jon’s Soccer Thoughts is discontinued during an active paid subscription term, any applicable obligations will be handled in accordance with applicable law and the relevant platform terms.
12. Limitation of Liability
To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, Jon’s Soccer Thoughts and Jon Hunt will not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages arising from your use of the publication or reliance on its content.
The publication and its content are provided on an “as is” and “as available” basis without guarantees that every feature, article, or service will always be uninterrupted or error-free.
13. Changes to These Terms
I may update these Terms of Service as Jon’s Soccer Thoughts changes.
When meaningful changes are made, I may provide notice through the publication, email, or another reasonable method. The effective date at the top of this page will reflect the most recent version. Continued use of Jon’s Soccer Thoughts after updated terms take effect constitutes acceptance of those terms.
14. Governing Law
These terms are governed by the laws of the Commonwealth of Kentucky, without regard to conflict-of-law principles, except where applicable law requires otherwise.
